Q: What are our hours of operation?
A: The hours of operation vary amongst the branches; however, all are open between 8:30a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please refer to branch locations for specific hours listed for each branch.

Q: If my auto insurance premium is frozen, why did my rates go up?
A: Effective October 30, 2003 the Alberta Government announced a rate freeze on auto insurance. This means all auto renewals after October 30, 2003 for a period of up to 18 months will have the same premium as the prior term. This of course is dependent upon making no changes to your policy or vehicles, not being involved in an accident nor receiving any tickets. In other words, your driving circumstances have not changed. Insureds are encouraged to make full premium payments, including any rate increase, and await a return premium as soon as your insurer is able to process it.

Q: What can I do to reduce my insurance cost?
A: Check with the broker to ensure you are receiving all available discounts and increase your deductibles. A Drayden broker would be happy to review your insurance policies for the best rates and coverages.

Q: I have just moved to Alberta, how do I obtain Alberta Insurance, registration and driver's licence?
A: Refer to Drayden's New To Alberta for steps and a phone number contact list.

Q: I will be away this winter, what do I have to do to ensure my home insurance is valid?
A: Should you be away for more than 4 consecutive days you should do one of the following:
  • Have a competent adult check the house daily; or
  • Ensure the heat is maintained, drain and shut off the water supply and drain all pipes and appliances.

Q: If my dwelling is going to be vacant what do I do?
A: It is a requirement under most insurance policies that if your dwelling is vacant for more than 30 consecutive days you must provide notice to your Drayden Insurance Broker.
Upon notice “Permission for Vacancy” is generally granted by the insurer, which provides restricted coverage (i.e. fire and windstorm – not vandalism, water damage, etc.).

Q: Why is my auto premium so high?
A: The amounts in claims (injury accidents, theft, damages, etc.) have drastically increased over the past few years. Court awards and the amount of litigation is much higher than ever before. We, as policy holders, simply share in these costs.

Q: What is co-insurance?
A: This is a penalty clause which insurance companies apply when insured’s do not carry adequate limits of insurance on their property. It is critical that policyholders review their building limits regularly to ensure that the limit reflects proper value.

Q: What do I need to register my vehicle?
A: See Drayden Registries section, Vehicle plates and registration.

Q: Do I need the renewal form that I received in the mail in order
to renew my driver's licence and vehicle registration?

A: No, you are not required to present the renewal form if you do not have it. Present your existing photo licence and secondary I.D. for a driver’s licence renewal and the liability insurance proof, driver’s licence for registration.

Q: At what age can a person obtain a learner's licence?
A: In Alberta an individual must be at least 14 years of age to apply for a learner’s licence with acceptable I.D., and parental consent if under the age of 18.
